For me it was way back in the day when I got a poor quality tape trader copy of the 1998 king of the death matches ..... that was the 1st time i had seen anything "hardcore" i was amazed and addicted to the gory bloody battles I watched that day
altho most of the old skool BJW matches I have seen pale when compared to todays standards I still thank them for opening my eyes to the wonderfull world of death matches ;D

In 1996, I was receiving RF Video Update, and they were selling the "Balloon Thumbtack Massacre" 5/22/96. I was amazed by the unique concept, so I directly bought the video, altough the quality was so bad that I had to get the same show from another dealer. I am wondering why they have never booked another Balloon Thumbtack Match. Perhaps it was a bit dangerous for the fans.
I miss those days as every month, they were doing a " can you top this from last month insannity" concept with a new death match. Their early videos, made by Quest, had a huge W*ING/IWA-esque video montages by showing clips of the death match itself with a horror movie-a-like drama, the interviews before matches, the clipped matches, and the full main event.

1999 I had heard some rumblings about the legendary 1st Honma/Yamakawa match, and then bought the tape from wrestlingemporium. I was sold ever since.

Those "Japanese Hardcore Wrestling" PPVs were my first time actually seeing Big Japan. I had known about them before that though from reading about them at various sites. After seeing "Japanese Hardcore Wrestling #2" I became a big fan, but I mostly download their stuff as it's really easy to find nowadays.

I bought the Best of Ryuji Ito vol.1 DVD from Highspots in '05 after reading some good reviews about it. The Ito-Kobayashi match impressed me deeply. I've only seen very few deathmatches before, and those were mostly old FMW ones. I've been a BJW addict since then, wich led to me buying every single episode of deathmatch wars, downloading every match I could get and finally making this website.

I can't remember when I first found out about it exactly, but my first taste of BJW was on some comp tape I ordered from Highspots. Then after that, I ordered the Crocodile Deathmatch tape, which really got me hooked on the company. This was either 2002 or 2003, I can't remember. But I've been a fan ever since.

The first BJW match is saw vs Jaki Numazawa vs Jun Kasai in a razor wire boards match. This caught my attention, as it was very, very brutal, and compared to the North American Deathmatches, it was hands down better.
