CREDIT TO SOME IWA NERD:
There was a packed house. Most people I've ever seen in Bellevue by far. They had to add more seats to the front row.
The show opened with a speech from Ian mostly about why the decision to close the doors was made. Bottom line is, like Ian said... the U.S. is the greatest country in the world, but if you don't have health insurance and you get hurt or sick, you're pretty much fucked.
The opener was The Hype Jimmy Shalwin vs. vs. I'm sorry, I have no idea who the other guys were, and I didn't hear the announcement from Mike Z. It was a decent opener with some good comedy spots. I honestly don't even remember who won. Sorry about that.
Second was a newly slimmed down Michael Elgin vs. Jimmy Jacobs in a dog collar match. No sign of or word about Corporal Robinson. This is when the show really started to take off... both guys got a huge reception. Both guys bled, and as the match wore on, Jacobs kept wearing down Elgin with his various submission holds. Elgin eventually tapped out thanks to Jacobs' submission finisher with the chain wrapped around his neck. Afterwards, Jimmy Jacobs said that overall, people love to hate, but what can't be denied is that certain wrestlers today, including himself, wouldn't be where they were today if it weren't for IWA Mid South. Whether it actually ended last night or not, he was grateful for getting to spend 7 years of his career there. In one of the most emotional moments I've ever seen, Ian, with tears in his eyes, literally ran into the ring and embraced Jimmy Jacobs. There's really not much more I can say.
Match three was Dingo w/ Jim Fannin vs. Ryan Phoenix for the IWA Mid South Heavyweight Championship. Regardless of Dingo's actions these last few months, he got a huge ovation when he came out. As the match began (which was falls count anywhere) he quickly began heeling it up, and thanks to several Fannin moments, most of the crowd was behind Ryan Phoenix. It also helped having Pondo yelling "Dingo sucks!" from behind the curtain. After a long, dramatic match, Dingo picks up the victory after locking in a dragon sleeper. Phoenix tried to fight it off, dragging Dingo all over the building, but eventually succumbed up in the bleachers. Afterwards, Ian thanked Dingo for being the epitome of what a champion should be, and said that the belt was his to keep until there was another chance to defend it. Dingo received a huge ovation and we went to intermission.
The ropes were wrapped in barbed wire and loose light tubes were scattered throughout the ring for a four way death match featuring four newer death match workers, Mephisto, Joey Grunge, The Dixieland Destroyer, and Chris Havius. This was just a fun brawl... lots of light tubes were broken, and the crowd was completely into it. Grunge got a really bad cut on his ear. Dixieland Destroyer went for his 2nd rope Canadian Destroyer on Havius, which was an epic fail, but oh well. I sure as hell couldn't do any better. I think the Destroyer picked up the win. I don't remember much details, but I remember being really impressed with Mephisto.
Up next was Mickie Knuckles vs. Neil Diamond Cutter in a taipei death match with barbed wire boards and pits of glass. 10 seconds into the match, the larger Hooligans hit the ring, followed closely by Sami Callihan and Jon Moxley, making it a six person tag match. I wasn't keeping track of time, but it felt like it was over a half hour, and it was an all out, non-stop brawl. So many awesome things happened I can't even describe them. I can't even begin to tell you how awesome Sami and Moxley are together. Just an unbelievable team. Mickie and the boys pick up the victory after the two big Hooligans leave junior by himself in the ring. He was finished off with a brutal chokeslam/german suplex by Mickie and Sami into a glass pit. Afterwards, Ian thanks Mickie for everything she's done for IWA.
The main event changed three times throughout the night. People showed up expecting to see Pondo vs. Ian. Ian then announced he wanted it to be Ian and Danny Havoc vs. Pondo and Elkview Adam. But Havoc was MIA, so it became Ian and Pondo vs. Elkview and Viper. The stips were NRBW, electrified light tubes, fans bring the weapons. 30 seconds into the match, Ian, with help from Pondo, somehow locked in a tarantula on Elkview Adam on top of the barbed wire, causing the top strand to completely snap, sending Ian spilling to the outside. Pondo used a cordless drill on both Viper and Elkview, shoving it straight up his nose. I didn't see how it happened, but Elkview got a really bad cut on his leg. It might have been a slam off the bleachers through a light tube contraption. Ian and Pondo picked up the victory after a Rotten Rush on Viper through a bunch of tubes. Afterwards, Ian said more thank you's, but all the wrestlers and fans were physically and emotionally exhausted. Beers were shared, and good times were had.
I think IWA deserved more for a "final" show. It would have been nice to have a few more matches with more guys there, but considering what they had, it was an awesome night. Emotion was high the whole night, and considering it was thrown together on such short notice with seemingly barely any money, it was absolutely incredible. I don't have an ounce of regret about changing plans and making the drive to see this historic night. Thank you Ian Rotten, Jim Fannin, Mickie Knuckles, Patti, Kevin, Mike Z, SMV, all the wrestlers, and all the fans for making it a truly memorable night.
Granted I still have to see the show, this show does not sound very good at all. Of course Ian Rotten has to put himself over on the last show. I like how he said that his match with Dingo was his last deathmatch and then he does this. Makes you know for sure that this wont be the last show.
