KEITH_H's Best of Abdullah Kobayashi (4 Discs)
Had some issues with some of the footage for the WON MOTY runner up set, so this one got moved up in the release line.
This best of set contains a selection of the best matches from my favorite BJW deathmatch wrestler Abdullah Kobayashi. A lot of people like to criticize deathmatch wrestling as guys simply smashing each other with weapons and light tubes, but BJW is far more than that, and this set will show it. This 4 disc set contains some of the most well wrestled deathmatches of the last several years, including my picks for 2003, 2005, and 2006 DMOTY.
All of the matches on this set are VG-EX video quality.
It's $16.00 for the 4 discs. This includes shipping in the US and Canada. Europe please add $2.00 for air mail. PM me if you're interested. THE SET IS NOT FOR TRADE.
All DVDs have full menus, and Kobayashi's theme music playing in the background; DVDs were authored w/ TMPGE DVD Author 2.0
Match Listings:
DISC 1:
1. BJW Grocery Store Death Match: Kendo Nagasaki vs. Seiji Yamakawa, Bruiser Okamoto, Yosuke (Abdullah) Kobayashi & Yuichi Taniguchi (06/01/95) – One of the weirdest matches you’ll ever see. It starts off as a wrestling demonstration in the middle of a town square, but soon the fighting leaves the ring. Every sort of weapon imaginable gets used. Guys are hit with signs, watermelons, bread, boxes, crates, bottles, mini fridges, toasters, cash registers, gumball machines, sticks, bags of rice, fishing nets, pies, ham, fresh fish, literally anything...
2. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. MENS Teioh (05/30/99) – Fun little match here. Kobayashi holds his own well, and Teioh is his usual solid self.
3. Abdullah Kobayashi & Abdullah the Butcher vs. Great Kojika & MENS Teioh (06/20/99) – Far from a great match, but I thought I should include one Kobayashi match where he teams with his namesake. Teioh gets carved up pretty good in this one.
4. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Tomoaki Honma (02/22/00, Barbed Wire board, Ladder death match) – Great match here from when Honma was just on fire as the best deathmatch guy in the business. This was really the first time Kobayashi stepped up, and he did so in a great way. A BJW classic.
5. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Tomoaki Honma (04/08/00) – Short, but good match from the 2000 World Extreme Cup. Watch for the sick top rope rana to the outside.
6. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Kintaro Kanemura (05/10/01, Barbed wire Board and Strap Death match) – Pretty good for a strap match, which usually suck. Bloody.
DISC 2:
7. Abdullah Kobayashi & MENS Teioh vs. Shadow WX & the Winger (06/03/01, Fire Death Match) – Great fire death match that would have been right at home in the 1999 BJW greatness. Watch for WX roasting Kobayashi alive with a fireball.
8. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Shadow WX (08/15/01, Barbed Wire & Light Bulb Board & Coffin Death Match, clips) – Just clips here unfortunately (no full version exists), but the match looked damn good.
9. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Mad Man Pondo (08/29/01, Barbed Wire Strap Match) – Not a great match, but BLOODY as hell. Pondo with no shirt on is a SCARY sight.
10. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Ryuji Ito (12/24/03, BJW DM Title, 100 Light tubes, Cactus, Barbwire Boards, Caribbean Barbwire Ropes, and Plates of Glass Death Match) – NOW this is a GREAT deathmatch. Kobayashi challenges for Ito’s deathmatch title. This match has some great innovative spots with the tubes, and glass. A sick, insane, super fun death match. The start of Kobayashi’s string of really good singles deathmatches. 2003 DMOTY.
11. Abdullah Kobayashi Wedding Reception Commemoration Death Match: Abdullah Kobayashi & Naoki Numazawa vs. Madman Pondo & 2 Tuff Tony (12/10/04) – Talk about bizarre, Kobayashi competes in a deathmatch... then GETS MARRIED in the ring after the match!!! While he’s still bleeding!!! Garbage wrestling sleaze at it’s absolute best. How he talked his fiancée into this... I have no idea. On here for the weirdness, not match quality.
12. Abdullah Kobayashi & Ryuji Ito vs. Naoki Numazawa & Jun Kasai (10/2/05, No-Rope Barbed Wire Super Fire Road Deathmatch) – CRAZY ass fire match here, with tons of flaming weapons, barbwire, light tubes, crazy bumps, and general chaos. Pure mayhem. These guys are NUTS.
DISC 3:
13. Abdullah Kobayashi & Daisuke Sekimoto vs. Naoki Numazawa & Jun Kasai (10/14/05, 250 Light tubes Deathmatch - BJW Tag Titles) – Awesome match here, my 2005 DMOTY runner up. Maybe the bloodiest match I’ve ever seen: filled with sick bumps, a rabid crowd, and actual “good” wrestling.
14. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Daisuke Sekimoto (11/22/05, 100 Light tubes #1 Contender Deathmatch) – My 2005 DMOTY. They make every light tube shot count for something. Every time a tube is used it means something. It hurts. It matters. It's not just "I'll kick some light tubes into you! You smash some Light tubes on me!" over and over again. Sekimoto rules as always, but this match is Kobayashi kicking ass.
15. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Ryuji Ito (12/21/05, BJW DM Title, Scaffold, 100 light tubes, Death match) – Kobayashi FINALLY wins the deathmatch title from BJW ace Ryuji Ito. Crazy match here with the usual light tube nuttiness, and some INSANE bumps from the scaffold. A true feel good moment.
16. Abdullah Kobayashi & Masada vs. Ryuji Ito & Takashi Sasaki (01/21/06, 100 Light tubes Death Match) – Super fun match here, with tons of tubes and near falls.
Disc 4:
17. 3-Way Light Tubes Death Match: Abdullah Kobayashi & Daisuke Sekimoto vs. Ryuji Ito & Takashi Sasaki vs. Naoki Numzawa & Saburo Inematsu (03/07/06, 200 Light tubes Death Match) – Bloody... very bloody. Some great 3 way moves and spots, not to mention light tubes, lots of light tubes, being kicked into peoples faces, chests, backs, etc…
18. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Takashi Sasaki (03/31/06, BJW DM Title, 200 Fluorescent Light tubes, Nail cluster Death match) – My 2006 DMOTY. This might be the most fun I had watching a match this year, and is fast on its way to becoming by favorite deathmatch EVER. Just a brutal, violent, crazy ass deathmatch that was 10 shades of awesome. Kobayashi really shines in singles deathmatches, and this is his best ever. The nail bumps in this match were SICK. Watching someone try to pull the nails out of Sasaki's head at the end of this match, and they CAN’T because they're jammed in that DEEP, is one of the craziest things I've ever seen. Props to both guys for giving this title match a true "big match" feel. A hot crowd, actual wrestling, and sick near falls make this match an absolute deathmatch classic.
19. Abdullah Kobayashi & Mayumi Ozaki vs. Yuko Miyamoto & Kyoko Kimura (06/04/06, Mixed Gender Light Tube Death Match) – Men and Women fighting in a deathmatch with light tubes = a match that’s hard to watch. Very Brutal. Great match though.
20. Abdullah Kobayashi vs. Kyoko Kimura (07/30/06, 100 Light tubes death match) – See above. Kimura puts in a valiant effort. That’s one tough woman. Very good deathmatch.
